Question on Waylay - DARKJAY - 04-18-2013 03:35 PM

For all the rules lawyers out there!

The rulebook states:

Quote:Parry will negate any weapon strike (melee or ranged) that is not a Backstab.

Waylay is not described as a type of “Backstab”.
So can Parry negate Waylay?

I assume you need Uncanny Dodge to avoid a Waylay, but this is not specifically stated in the text.

The "Assassinate" skill is clear in that nothing, including Parry, can stop it. But Waylay is not as clear - at least not for the lawyers!Wink

The skill Parry will not stop a successful Waylay attack. It is erroneously left out of the descriptions of both Waylay and Parry. Because Waylay and Assassinate are both out of combat skills/effects that require a specific delivery method standard avoidance skills such as Parry, Dodge, and Uncanny Dodge cannot be used to avoid either. Waylay is negated by the Thickskin miscellaneous skill or by wearing heavy armor on the head and/or neck. A successful Assassinate cannot be negated by anything in the rulebook, though there may be other ways to negate Assassinate.

Thanks! That makes sense and is consistent.
